10 GOLDEN RULES FOR LIVING IN PERFECT HEALTH- TOTAL MIND, BODY, SPIRIT CONNECTION

Written by Jeanine Strong on . Posted in Change It Up Program News

Here are 10 things you can do every day to live in perfect health.

Why strive for perfect health- total mind, body and spirit connection? Because when all 3 are in balance our true form is able to emerge and not only reveal our best body ever, but our true perfect self- who we were really meant to be. We all want to be happy. We all want to be loved. When we focus on having perfect health rather than the perfect body, the perfect job, or the perfect life we find ourselves walking on the Red Road, living in determined action with truth, humbleness, love and respect.

1. Cultivate The Mind

Cultivate the mind with 2-10 minutes of mindful meditation and prayer. Our problems cannot be solved at the same level of thinking where we created them. This is one reason meditation is so important. When we meditate our brains shift, emitting alpha waves and delta waves that help access our inner wisdom as well as reduce cortisol, which is known to cause stress and weight gain. Meditation is a technique where words, music or even silence instruct the mind to move into deeper regions. These regions hold the key to reducing stress, weight gain and toxic behaviors and increasing insight, awareness, understanding, forgiveness, peace and love. The linear mind cannot bring these things about on it’s own. The same way we feed our body with food, we need to feed our spirit with meditation and prayer.

Prayer connects the mind to Spirit, allowing the voice of Spirit to be heard over the voice of the ego. Prayer is how we plug in, align our thinking with love and expand our consciousness. When we pray and meditate we cultivate our mind to align with right thinking. Problems and situations that previously baffled us become easy to manage and understand. Spiritual practice allows us to pay attention to what we need to hear in order to grow and create balance in our lives. Meditation, prayer and other spiritual practices also allow us to see and experience that every living being is connected. We are all part of something much bigger that connects us, a power greater than ourselves that is our source. When we maintain awareness and connection to that source through prayer and meditation our lives become manifestations of love where perfect health is attainable.

2. Eat Clean & Light

Aim for eating mostly whole natural foods and avoid processed foods whenever possible. Whole natural foods provide proper nutrients necessary for perfect health. Processed foods are full of chemicals, hormones and artificial ingredients that rob us of nutrients, cause cancer, increase weight gain and cholesterol, cause food allergies and countless diseases of the body and mind. They even create difficulty in thinking and concentration. Unhealthy eating is an addictive act of self-sabotage and destruction. This is not to say that you can’t ever have a piece of cake or candy again. The hope is that as you evolve, as you eat better, you will think better and clearer, and you won’t even want to eat unhealthy processed foods. The experience will not feel good to you anymore.

Natural foods like fruit, vegetables and whole grains replenish your body, restore your mind, revitalize your energy level, delay the process of aging, make your skin glow and make you happier, more beautiful and confident. Plus natural foods actually taste better than junk food that taint your taste buds. When you go without junk food long enough your taste buds will restore to their original state and you will be able to taste how delicious and wonderfully satisfying healthy whole foods really are.

3. Drink Half Body Weight in Water

The body thrives when it is properly hydrated. Headaches, fatigue, weight gain and weight loss plateaus can be attributed to dehydration. When you don’t get enough water your whole system is affected. You lose essential electrolytes when you sweat that need to be replenished. Don’t get tricked into drinking those sugar filled sports drinks full of artificial colors and ingredients. They do more damage than good. When replenishing electrolytes, half a teaspoon of sea salt will do the trick. Drink half your body weight (pounds) in ounces each day, for example if you weigh 150 lbs you should drink 75 oz of water per day. If you exercise and sweat a lot add another liter of water with half teaspoon of sea salt to replenish electrolytes. If your urine is anything but clear you need more water.

4. Exercise For 45 Minutes

We all know exercise is crucial for having perfect health. It prevents practically all diseases that come with age, staves off weight gain and relieves anxiety. Another benefit of daily exercise is relieving tension and reducing stress. Relieving tension alone can improve your thought patterns. You develop a better outlook and are better able to manage stress. It is a good idea to constantly challenge your muscles in order to avoid plateaus and the best way to do that is to change up your workout routines every 2 weeks. Find a program that works for you, like the Change It Up Program, which consists of different routines that you can mix and match for endless workout combinations. You can easily get a more efficient workout in 45 minutes. Do 15 minutes of any high intensity interval cardio plus 30 minutes of total body strength training 6 days a week with 1 rest day. Carving out 45 minutes a day for exercise is easy to maintain and necessary for achieving perfect health.

5. Experience The Positive

Experience positive emotions each and every day through various outlets such as writing gratitude lists, self-affirmations, visioning and journaling. Writing can be relaxing plus it is a great way to express your self. You can get a diary to express your thoughts or explore and find your own mode of self-expression. Even if what you are writing is about a trauma or negative experience, the process of expressive writing is therapeutic and will allow you to experience closure and therefore open you up to more positive experiences. There are many benefits of expressive writing including greater psychological well-being, reduced depression and anxiety, fewer post traumatic symptoms, fewer doctor visits, reduced blood pressure, improved liver and lung function, improved memory and performance, higher grade point average, improved social behavior and improved mood/attitude. Start with simple free writing, put pen to paper and don’t think about what to say just write 3 pages of anything and everything that comes to mind.

6. Stay Active

Sitting still for long periods of time is one of the worst things we can do for our health. Muscle activity basically stops which lowers the metabolism and can lead to a series of harmful consequences like obesity, Type 2 diabetes and even death. Stay active by not sitting still for longer than 1 hour at a time. Stand up, stretch, move your body or go for a short walk. You can get creative and try sitting on an exercise ball instead of your office chair or try a stand-up desk, an adjustable-height desk that allows you to change positions throughout the day, or a treadmill desk.

7. Keep The Mind Resilient

Keep your mind resilient by reading books, playing a game or doing a puzzle even if only for a few minutes each day. By having a sharp mind you can figure out situations more effectively and make wiser decisions. Doing so allows you to improve rationality, and with increased rationality comes an improved attitude towards a given situation. Part of practicing perfect health is to keep learning. Resilient people are determined to learn and make themselves useful.

8. Connect With Others

Connecting with others is one of the most important things we can do to attain perfect health. When we are with others we experience more positive emotions, which leads to greater happiness. When we are happy we have better relationships. This leads to being on an upward spiral of perfect health, well-being and happiness. There are several ways to connect with others. Call a friend, join a support group, get active in your community, shake someone’s hand, be of service, practice random acts of kindness. Don’t just rely on Facebook and email to contact friends and family, really connect one-on-one, face-to-face whenever possible. When you surround yourself with support, you can get through any hard time less stressed and add years to your life.

9. Get Adequate Sleep

Getting a good night’s sleep of 8 hours has many benefits like boosting brainpower and mood, lowering risk of diseases and maintaining a healthy weight. You will be less likely to get sick, and being alert allows you to make better decisions and avoid accidents. Many of us suffer from chronic lack of sleep. People who sleep less than 7 hours increase risk of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, certain cancers and metabolic syndrome, and are about three times more likely to develop cold symptoms and make vaccines less effective. Obesity has been linked to lack of sleep, and when you diet while sleep deprived your body burns muscle, not the fat you want to lose. Lack of sleep can also alter hormone levels that affect appetite. Getting adequate sleep improves mental health, learning and memory consolidation, longevity, sports performance and public safety. For perfect health, sleep is important. The functions of sleep touch nearly every system in the body.

10. Let Love Be Your Only Function

Surrender to what is and let love be your only function. This one thought has power to awaken the sleeping truth in all of us, where vision sees beyond appearances to the same truth within everyone and everything. Love will carry us through all. There is no suffering it cannot heal, no problem it cannot solve. When we rest in love we are unshaken by the turmoil of the world and remember that we came to bring the peace of love into the world in our own unique way. Perfect health is only attainable through love. With love our energy is restored and we will walk with lighter steps along the Red Road that suddenly feels easier as we go.

LOOK BETTER THAN EVER WHILE WORKING OUT LESS

Written by Jeanine Strong on . Posted in Change It Up Program News

Is it possible to get a more efficient workout in half the time with better results? Here’s 3 ways to workout less and still look your best.

There are some major misconceptions out there about how often, how long and how hard you need to workout in order to look good. Here’s your opportunity to breathe a sigh of relief and learn the truth about looking your best while working out less.

Misconception #1: Needing to get the recommended 30-60 minutes of moderate cardio exercise daily.

Truth: When you do more than 20 minutes of cardio exercise you are actually teaching your body to store fat. Your body needs extra fuel to burn when you workout more than 30 minutes, so your body begins storing fat as fuel. Even if you are eating perfectly clean your body will go into conservation mode and store whatever fat you eat, which means doing 30-60 minutes of cardio is completely counterproductive. This is why you may feel like you’re doing everything right but still not getting the results you want. All you need to do is 15-20 minutes of any high intensity interval cardio, preferably at decreasing speed intervals, with cool downs in between. The intervals start with a warm up for 60 seconds, then go at max heart rate for 120 seconds, then 90 seconds, then 60 seconds, then 45 seconds, then 30 seconds, then 20 seconds with 30 second cool downs in between. You can do this walking, running, hiking, swimming, climbing stairs, jumping rope, etc. And in addition to 15 minutes of cardio you want to do 20-30 minutes of total body strength training.

Misconception #2: Focusing on problem areas and lifting increasingly heavier weight will get results.

Truth: Focusing only on problem areas makes for an unbalanced workout with poor results. Your body is a well-designed machine that works at its optimal level when all parts are in balance, worked equally and in alignment. This is why it is so important to get a total body workout. Working all muscles equally and not just your problem areas will allow your true form to emerge revealing your best body ever. Plus focusing on problem areas can lead to injury further hindering the process. Lifting heavy weights can also cause injury or harm and is not easily maintainable in the long run. You do not need more than 3 lbs. dumbbells and ankle weights to get the long lasting fantastic results you want. Plus you’ll breeze through your workout faster without all the heavy equipment.

Misconception #3: Committing to the same routine with a trainer or gym class month after month.

Truth: Consistency and persistence are crucial to getting and staying in shape but doing the same routine for months is a waste of time as you will ultimately plateau and stop getting results because your body has a very good memory and will get used to the workouts. Your muscles need to be constantly challenged and the best way to do that is to change up your workout routines every 2 weeks. It can be difficult to come up with new and different workouts that will keep your body challenged, even trainers have a hard time remembering different workout combinations. We are creatures of habit and often get stuck in the same routine. This is why I designed my Change It Up Program to consist of different routines that you can mix and match for endless workout combinations. Every 2 weeks you can Change It Up and select 5 all new workouts to keep your body challenged and looking and feeling fabulous. The idea is to perfect each move over the 2 week period. The Change It Up workouts are designed to target all muscles equally, not just the major muscle groups like most typical workouts do, but also the smaller accessory muscles that we tend to overlook. This will sculpt a lean and beautiful body.

Rather than driving to the gym, spending an hour on the treadmill or elliptical and then another hour on the same weight machines or gym class, give yourself a break and get a more efficient workout in half the time with better results. Carving out 45 minutes a day for your own self-care is easily maintainable throughout your lifetime. It becomes your time to focus, to challenge yourself, and to love yourself. Instead of feeling like a chore or inconvenience, it becomes a way of life and something you look forward to. In just 45 minutes a day you can get your 15 minutes of high intensity interval cardio and 30 minute total body strength training routine done and have more time to do the things you love.

SPIRITUALITY ~ THE MISSING LINK TO PERMANENT WEIGHTLOSS

Written by Jeanine Strong on . Posted in Change It Up Program News

Frustrated by the endless cycle of losing and regaining unwanted weight? Well, Spirituality is the key to finally getting rid of excess weight and staying in shape.

Many of us are all too familiar with the frustrating cycle of losing weight only to regain it within a few weeks. Trying to lose those last stubborn 10-15 pounds seems impossible. There are those of us too who might succeed at losing weight but at what cost- starvation or deprivation? That is not a way to live. Society has taught us to fixate on our weight in toxic, unhealthy and unrealistic ways. Instead of focusing on our obsessive preoccupation with having the perfect body, we should be striving for perfect health- total mind, body and spirit connection. When all 3 are in balance our true form is able to appear revealing our best body ever, and the results remain permanent as long as we remain in fit spiritual and physical condition. When we combine a healthy lifestyle with spiritual practice our true, beautiful, perfect self will finally emerge.

There are several ways to stay spiritually fit that have nothing to do with religion or going to church. Spirituality is the quest for a power greater than your own. It is a personal journey different for everyone. There are hundreds of spiritual books, courses and programs that will assist in finding that higher power. If we rely only on ourselves, and our own thinking, we will not succeed. If our thinking does not change we will lose weight only to gain it back. We may temporarily lose weight from our body but if we do not eliminate the weight of negative thoughts from our mind and spirit, the physical weight will indeed return. This self- defeating process will continue until we learn to drop the stories we tell ourselves that produced the weight and unhealthy habits in the first place. We do this by cultivating a spiritual practice.

Studies have shown when we change our lifestyle we turn on genes that prevent disease and extend our lives. We lose weight. However, the choices we make in what we do and what we eat are not the only underlying cause of weight issues. There is a deeper cause that powerfully affects our choices, which causes us to compulsively eat or starve, or exercise obsessively or not at all. That cause is our separation from Spirit. Behaviors that help us get through the day and numb our pain have become a way of protecting us from further harm, but they also isolate us from the healing we need. When we address the deeper issues by reconnecting to a power greater than ourselves it becomes easier to make lasting changes in our behavior.

Awareness is the first step. Being aware that we are not separate, we are not alone. We don’t need to take refuge in food. When we work from this deeper level we remember who we really are, we shift from fear to love. Really loving ourselves is the next step. So many of us berate ourselves with negative thoughts of lack and limitation. We think we are not good enough, smart enough, pretty enough or thin enough. We criticize and hate our bodies. Self- affirmations are a great way to reprogram our mind by turning those negative thoughts into positive affirmations. Every time we catch ourselves in negative self-talk, counteract those thoughts with a positive affirmation. For example, when saying something like “I’m too old and tired to change, I’ve let myself get fat I don’t deserve to be happy”, replace it with, “I am magnificent and worthy of health and happiness”. Get creative and write out positive self-affirmations to post around the house for inspiration. A Gratitude List is another great way to shift your perception from fear to love. When we are grateful we open our heart, become vulnerable and experience profound healing and joy.

Other spiritual practices that aid in our healing and perfect health maintenance include prayer, meditation, visioning, yoga, sweat lodges, journal writing and being of service. These practices allow us to access our inner peace and wisdom, the still small voice that is always there but easily drowned out by mind chatter and the outer world. When we pay attention to our inner voice we can detect problems in their earlier stages and resolve them quickly. True lasting weight loss is a byproduct of this deeper healing.

Our spiritual fitness is just as important as our physical fitness. The same way our body loses strength and gains weight when we do not maintain a healthy diet and exercise program, if we do not maintain our spiritual practice we lose connection to Spirit, slip back into fear mind and are no longer conscious. Taking necessary steps to keep in fit physical and spiritual condition is essential to having true peace, and a beautiful body that reflects a healthy mind and spirit.
